Hot Chocolate for Couples: Practical Ways to Sweeten Your Love Life ReviewLet me begin by stating that Cindy Dagnan suggests that Hot Chocolate for Couples be read at one chapter per week, prayerfully considered and then put into action. I read this book in two days. Since I read through the book so quickly, I am now taking Dagnan's word for it and will reread this book with the intention of putting the items covered into practice with my own wonderful Dear Husband Scott (squeee! I love you baby!). I did not plan to read this book in two days, but as I did, I will go ahead and post one review of my thoughts on the book now, and three months from now I will publish another review of how this book showed me how God wants me to view my marriage once I read the book at Dagnan's suggested pace.
Believe me, I had every intention of reading this book at the rate of one chapter per week, but once I picked this book up, I honestly could not put it down. I kept wanting to see the next thing Dagnan said about marriage, be it marriage in general, or her own marriage. Dagnan uses examples and illustrations from her own experiences in marriage and parenting to help back up what God's word says about marriage, and she does a very good job of showing how important it is to keep God at the center of everything in marriage. She discusses topics such as what to do when the honeymoon period ends and what to do when children suddenly dominate your marriage. She even delves into the mysterious and beautiful world of a Godly intimate relationship with your spouse, and she does so in such a fun way that you don't end up blushing - or skipping - your way through those two chapters.
Biblical marriages are very hard to come by these days, but I count myself as divinely blessed to be married to such a Godly man who adores Jesus Christ just like I do. Dagnan's book offered tons of insight into what real married life is like, and those words of wisdom and experience are things that I still need to hear myself - especially since I've only been married a year and a half! I especially appreciated when she discussed keeping your marriage exciting and sacred when kids come along - everything she mentioned are things I need to know since I not only gained a husband when I got married, but I gained an eight year old stepson full time as well.
I could go on, but I won't. I'll save my words for the review I post when I prayerfully - and slowly - go through and complete this book in the coming weeks. I am looking forward to seeing what God reveals to my heart about my marriage!
