Bears in the Yard Foxes in the House: My Twelve Year Honeymoon in Alaska's Wilderness ReviewI throughly enjoyed the book. I especially appreciated the fact that, if Susie was going to move out to the middle of no where, Jerry was going to make it as comfortable for her as possible. There is a deep love running through out the book, not blatant, but there. People who have not lived in Alaska do not understand the fact that, even living in the middle of our largest cities, animals are destroyed to protect life and property. It is also a very common practice to keep a freezer outdoors. Your food stays frozen, without electricity in the winter, and it is protected from most animals. The only complaint I would have about my experience reading this book, was that I never got to see the foxes all lined up for dinner first hand! Loved it, would recommend it to a friend.Bears in the Yard Foxes in the House: My Twelve Year Honeymoon in Alaska's Wilderness Overview“This is a true life, 12 year, adventure story about Jerry Olson, his family, and his friends in the remote Alaskan wilderness.“With the main access being by airplane with floats, wheels, or skis they do more than just survive; they transform the wilderness into a paradise. Jerry and his wife Susie build two log cabins with all the comforts, a shop, and a rabbit barn from trees on their property. Their garden produces a bounty of vegetables. And there is a bond of mutual respect between the Olson's and both the people and the animals that come into their lives.“Some animals of the forest seem to adopt the Olson's. A large bear they named Gentleman Jim routinely stops by for a snack and a nap in their yard. Several foxes setup home nearby and the foxes, at times with Jerry's help, chase unfriendly creatures away from the cabin. The antics of the fox also entertain regular guest to their wilderness home.“This is a beautiful story about deep spiritual beliefs that leads the Olson's to kindly touch the land, the animals, and the people they meet.“Bears in the Yard Foxes in the House is an unassuming story that shows how to live a life of passion, dignity, kindness, and faith.“The many fascinating stories from this life journey will entertain, inform, and inspire."Tim Tyler, author “A Passion for the Edge: Living Your Dreams Now"Jerry Olson is a man's man-maverick, horse trainer, motorcycle enthusiast, log home builder, and pilot par excellence, but these “hats" run the periphery of his character. Committed and focused, hard-working and determined, he and his wife left civilization to spend twelve years carving out a legacy of love and wisdom in the Alaska bush, rubbing shoulders with critters in Ma Nature's backyard and in their house. This book is full of information, insight, and inspiration, benefitting anyone who reads it.Larry Kaniut, author “Alaska Bear Tales"
