Honeymoon Hitch (The Merits Of Marriage) (Harlequin Romance) ReviewISBN 0373035993 - Just for not forcing to me to skip pages of pointless sex scenes, Roszel earns 4 stars from me! Couldn't even find a tacky "quivering like a doe" line anywhere in the book, impressing me further.Susan had been in love with Jake Merit since she was a gawky teenager and he had dated her sister. Now working in mineralogy, when her boss finds himself indisposed, Susan is sent to the Merit's private island to cover for him. Now, face to face with the man she's dreamed of for 13 years, she becomes something of a blathering idiot and manages to put her foot in her mouth innumerable times.
Jake lost the love of his life years before, in an accident, and has dedicated his entire life since then to the family business, unearthing emerald on their private island. His father thinks "the family business" ought to mean making a family, and tells Jake so at the first opportunity. Suggesting that Jake marry Susan, he seems to be the only one on the entire island who says what he means.
A loveless marriage follows, and is filled with awkward conversation and an inability to speak clearly to one another. The conclusion is, as ever, obvious. Getting there has it's moments.
Standard romance-novel fare, nothing remarkable, other than the fact that the sex is limited and actually takes place after the marriage. This is part of a series, and I hope Jake's dad, George, is among the lucky Merit men getting hitched in The Merits of Marriage!
