Beyond Reach (Second Honeymoon) (Harlequin Presents) Review25yo heroine takes the cook-&-crewmember job for 1 month in the Virgin Islands after her promised massage-therapy position fell through. Hero is her employer & yacht skipper who makes it clear from the beginning that there will be no romantic dalliance b/w them. But implementing his rule is not so easy as their attraction to each other gets the best of them. Heroine is open & honest about herself to Hero but Hero resists sharing his deep, dark secrets to heroine.
This Field book had a good romance, sexual chemistry, dialogue, & emotionality. The contrast of heroine's emotional vulnerability & openness to Hero's emotional isolation & unwillingness to share his deep, dark secrets creates a poignant feel to the book. Characters had depth. It looks like heroine is the pursuer of their r/s b/c of her directness about her feelings & desires. But Hero is actually the one who initiates their intimate encounters but often retreats & closes himself off to heroine before their intimacies progress even further. It leaves heroine hanging & she calls him on it. I liked heroine's straightforward manner in dealing with their r/s. I also liked that she gave their r/s her best shot before she called it quits when Hero remained unwilling to meet her halfway. It showed that she had wisdom, self-respect, & respect for Hero.
Recommended.
